Residents Enjoy New Bus

We are excited to announce the purchase of a new bus for their residents! The new bus was made possible by a grant from Crown Point Community Foundation and generous donors. This 24-passenger bus with wheelchair lift will provide residents the ability to actively engage in the community life of Crown Point and the surrounding areas.

For many years, residents who live at CCV worked, shopped and invested their resources in Crown Point and the surrounding communities. They still have a strong desire and need to be actively engaged. The ability to depend upon safe and comfortable transportation provides residents with a sense of independence, community and adventure.

A bus dedication was conducted on June 12, with words from development Vice President Jeff Hills, Executive Director Amy Maurice and Chaplain Frank Klobucar. Each speaker thanked the generous donors, and the Crown Point Community Foundation, without each of their support the bus could not have been purchased. Klobucar prayed a blessing over the bus and those who would be riding in it. The ceremony finished joyously with Frank leading the residents in a laughing song of “The Wheels on the Bus.” After singing the group went on an inaugural Dairy Queen ride for some cool, sweet treats. This is actually tradition at CCV. The last time they purchased a new passenger bus, a group went to Dairy Queen for the first trip and these residents were excited to continue that tradition.

“Our residents have truly been blessed by CPCF and donors supporting the purchase of the bus. Since it has resident-friendly features, more residents will be able to attend events and outings,” notes executive director, Amy Maurice. Many residents commented on the smooth ride and the easy accessibility the new bus provides for all residents. There is a wheelchair lift on the back. The resident who rode on it noted how easy it was for her to join in on future trips.
